||This paper presents the first results of the CodeX project this project aims at conceiving and developing a software platform for visualizing electronic documents according different contexts of use. We introduce and define the term multiple view which is the core of our approach and we present the technical choices we made to develop this user oriented approach. We conclude by drawing some perspectives based particularly on the generation of multiple and dynamic views and the integration of language engineering tools. The Codex Project demonstrates that the XML format can successfully be used to provide electronic access to theses. While the project focusses on a prototype implementation using CODEX data, the approach will be general enough that it can be adopted by any group for implementing a digital library. Discussion of research results and ideas for future work appear in conclusion.
